I am naturally a passionate reader. I love reading novels and you can hardly see me without a novel in my bag. It’s really so painful now that I am really busy with other things (job, kids, adult life etc) that hinder me from finishing a novel for many days (no regrets by the way). I remember I used to finish one novel everyday while a teenager (and sometimes two in a day depending on the size) and I had no preference for any genre, I read anything.
Being such an avid reader while growing up, I found it difficult to sleep because being so engrossed in what I was reading I would be oblivious to my surroundings and so many days I remember my dad would be the one to switch off the light in my room in the dead of the night ordering me to go to sleep. Then I would stay in the dark in my bed wishing my eyes had their own special kind of illumination that would enable me to read in the dark or wishing that it would be possible to place my novel under my pillow and read it in my dreams :)
That is the kind of opportunity Google calendar has offered us today.
I think Google Calendar is a good idea as it’s online and you can access it anywhere. There have been times I have been frustrated when I wished to access some information on my laptop in another environment and I wished I had my laptop with me. These were the times I had wished the information on my laptop were stored online.
I have toyed with Google calendar before but have held back because (1) I am not really a serious calendar keeper, (2) I was wary of having my plans and projections online and (3) I have virtual sticky notes on my laptop which I use whenever I need to remind myself of something. This has worked well for me because it’s like writing on those little 'sticky notes' paper and sticking them on my screen. As soon as I switch on my laptop, it’s what I see and I am really used to that.
I will try and use Google calendar but I do not promise I will stick to it like I said I am one who hardly keeps calendars and what with the shortcomings of not being able to send information via it to non Google users. So much for Thing 8.
